“How to Restart Your Personal Battery” by Joan Y. Edwards

It’s Monday. Most days your inner car goes, “Varoom, Varoom, Swoop” and off you go.
But today you’re telling me that your personal battery seems a bit sluggish. Now when you turn the key to your body, it goes “Paroom, paroom, da doom. plunk.”
You are usually the one who GTD (Gets Things Done), but oh no. Not today.
That doesn’t sound good to me. You seem to have a definite lack of energy. What can you do? What are ways to recharge your inner battery  so that you can tackle a few things you want to do today, tomorrow, or any day. Especially when you’re trying to be more accountable to accomplishing your goals.
Here are 8 suggestions that might work to help you see things in a different way that gives you more energy and helps you see yourself in a more positive way.
  1. Pray. Ask God to replenish your energy and calm your fears. If possible, make a visit to your church or a place in nature that inspires you and fills you with peace.
Isaiah 40:31  “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
  2. Listen to your favorite calming music.  Sing your favorite hymn.
  3. Draw, paint, or do ceramics. Cut out pictures from magazines.
  4. Change Your Focus – Leslie Baker says to Focus on who you are rather than on what you can do. Focus on the traits of the real you. Focus on the traits you wish you had as if you already have them.
  5.  Go to a different room in your home or go outside. Look through pictures of fun times.
  6. Take a short nap. Sometimes you are worn out from trying to juggle too many things at one time.
  7. Make a list and take action. Make a new list of what has to be accomplished and how long it will take to do it. Put a star beside the things that must be done today. Set the timer for the time needed for one item on your list. Do it. It’s amazing. Your energy may surprise you and go “Varoom, Varoom, Swoop”
  8. Dance, walk, or do other exercise. It will give you endorphins that make you happy.
Thank you for reading my blog. Let me know what gives you energy when yours seems zapped.  Please leave a comment. Let me know if there’s a topic you’d like for me to discuss in a future article.

    1. Dear Carol,
Thank you for writing. You’re right. Sometimes eating can change your mood and get you thinking in another direction. Getting outside or exercising gets your mind moving in a different direction, too. Awesome ideas. Thanks for sharing.
      Enjoy being you!
