“I Hope in Your Lifetime” by Joan Y. Edwards

In my lifetime, I’ve met people who believe in me, thank me, accept me as I am, empower me to meet my goals, love me without any conditions, and live, laugh, and cry with me. These people leave me feeling better because I know them. My husband, Carl L. Edwards is one of those people for me. Thank you, Carl. Happy Father’s Day!

The poem below is one I wrote to honor my husband, Carl and to spread good wishes for you.

I Hope in Your Lifetime

by Joan Y. Edwards

I hope in your lifetime that you meet someone who:
Thanks you.
Believes in you.
Accepts you as you are.
Empowers you to meet your goals.
Loves you without conditions.
Lives, laughs, and cries with you.
Leaves you feeling better because you know him.

When you do:
Thank him.
Believe in him.
Accept him as he is.
Empower him to meet his goals.
Love him without conditions.
Live, laugh, and cry with him.
Leave him feeling better because he knows you.

Love is an eternal gift.
It keeps on giving forever.
What goes around, comes around.
You reap what you sow.

Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed this poem. Please leave a comment or email me at joanyedwards1@gmail.com. I’d like to know what you think. Thanks. Happy Father’s Day!

    1. Dear Barbara,
You are welcome for the poem. I’m glad you liked it. I’m sure you thanked your husband enough. You can thank him now. You can say it out loud. You can write it in a letter. You can write a story in his memory. His spirit will hear you and rejoice! You will feel much better. This will erase your doubt. It will fill you with love.
Thanks for writing! It’s always good to hear from you.

  1. Joan,
Wow! I hope you’ll share this blog post with Carl as well. What a terrific way to honor him for his love, encouragement, and support. Do you know the Mother Teresa quote: “Let no one come to you without leaving better and happier.” It is a quote I used to have framed in my office at work. Now, I use it as part of my definition of customer service. It belive it applies in all settings and situations. This is the stuff you speak of in your poem. Loved it!

    1. Dear Linda, Thanks for writing. I’m glad you liked it. I read it to Carl and asked him if he would give me permission to post it on my blog. He said, “Yes.” Wasn’t that sweet of him? I’m not familiar with the Mother Teresa quote: “Let no one come to you without leaving them better and happier.” I’m glad it’s helped you with your definition of customer service. All of the people you serve at the library and any where you work are indeed blessed by your presence. I’m sure you leave them better off and a lot happier. Everyone I’ve seen you interact is indeed better for knowing you. You are friendly, outgoing, caring, and are willing to help when you can. What a gift you are! 3. Unconditional Love!!
Dear Joan, thanks for this wonderful Father’s Day Poem and a reminder to us to love unconditionally as did my husband John. John taught me this by his example, so, wherever you are dear husband, father, and a father who knows how to give and accept unconditional love, a very Happy Father’s Day.
Dear Carl, you are blessed to have Joany in your life, a person who knows how to give and who knows how to accept unconditional love. Carl, Happy Father’s Day!

    1. Dear Violette,
Thank you for writing. I’m glad that your late husband, John, gave you unconditional love. Thank you for your sweet note to my husband, Carl. You are a blessing!

Do something fun for you before midnight!
      Never Give Up
      Joan
