1. Wake Up !!

Wake up. Get up. Decide to have a good day. “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalms 118:24

2. Dress Up !!

Dress up your face with a smile. A smile is inexpensive and improves your looks. Job 8:21  He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting. Psalm 126:2  Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

3. Listen Up!!

Listen up to what others are saying. Say nice things and listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to listen twice as much as we speak.

“Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” It’s simple enough in principle, and nearly impossible to live. Too often we are slow to hear, quick to speak, and quick to anger. So, learning to listen well won’t happen overnight. James 1:19

4. Stand Up!!

Stand up for what you believe in.  Galatians 6:9-10

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” 1 Corinthians 16:13

5. Look Up!!

Look up to the Lord.  Ask God for help. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

6. Reach Up!!

Reach up for something higher. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

7. Lift Up!!

Lift up your prayers.  Be thankful. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6

I added 8 and 9,

8. Let Go!!

Let go and let God. Let go of wanting control of everything. Leave things in God’s hands. Have faith in him who created you in his likeness. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

9. Reach Out!!

Reach out to others and help them in the ways they cannot do for themselves. And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27

  1. A philosopher of one of the eastern religions (which one now I can’ remember) ‘there are many ways to climb a mountain, which one you choose is up to you, but the goal is the top.’
Wise words. The meaning being, you choose a religion to get you to heaven.

All religions teach goodness. Unfortunately mans interpretation is the problem.

I always remember reading the ‘Desiderata’ and thought such a wise saying; also listening to the song, so peaceful.
Whichever religion you choose to follow, it is what’s inside that matters.

You don’t need to go to church to believe in a god. One of the Buddhist sayings is be like a pebble dropped in a pond sending ripples out. Your actions and thoughts can be like a pebble ripple reaching the hearts and minds of others.

I was brought up a strict catholic as a child, with all the fire and brimstone taught and the hell and damnation if you sinned.
I’m no longer a practicing catholic now. But still believe in a god. But for those who still believe and go to church then as the saying goes, peace be with you, it is your path to the top, and your choice, and no one should criticise anyone for the religion they choose to follow.

I also remember the song ‘On the eve of destruction.’ One of the verses saying ‘hate your next door neighbour, but don’t forget to say grace.’ Also ‘Look at all the hate there is in Red China, then look around at Selma Alabama.’ Written at the time of racial hatred, but it is a reminder of what is inside the person that matters.

Thank you Joan for your interesting blog again. Always food for thought. My comments are in no way meant to offend anyone and was not written in that theme.

    1. Dear David,
Thank you for writing. I am glad you are at peace with God. You are right. Everyone has to make their own decision about what they believe. To me, God is good, forgiving, and loving.
When we are children, we do not have any filters. We take what our authority figures say as truth. As we grow in wisdom and understanding, we make other decisions about our beliefs.
May you have fun living and being with others. You are very helpful to those you meet. What a blessing you are!

      Have a fun day

  2. I liked your additions! So many more could be added. For me: Trust and Obey the Lord. Another: Keep walking.
    (Similar to Never Give Up).
