“How to Comment on a WordPress Blog without Signing-in” by Joan Y. Edwards

If the WordPress blog administrator requires you to sign in, you’ll have to sign in.

I believe most WordPress administrators only ask for your Name and Email Address. It also has a place for you to voluntarily put your website link. It’s not necessary.

In May a couple of people wrote me and said they were having problems leaving comments on my blog. I have had my blog since 2009 and never had anyone to tell me they had any problems leaving comments. All I have required is that you put your name and email address.

I did some research. Here’s what I discovered. in March 2012, WordPress changed their rules for when people who are members of WordPress leave comments on WordPress blogs.

Please note the effects of March 2012 WordPress rules for comments:

1. If you fill in the same email address as the one you signed up for WordPress or Gravatar, it’ll make you sign in before leaving a comment.

2. If you fill in your WordPress website link, it’ll make you sign in before leaving a comment, too.

This is even when WordPress bloggers like me choose for you to only have to put your name and email address and not to have to sign in. WordPress says it’s to protect people with WordPress accounts from having someone fraudulently post a comment with your email address or WordPress blog.

So…If you don’t want to sign in to WordPress in order to leave a comment on a WordPress blog: here’s what I suggest:

1. If you don’t want to have to sign in to WordPress in order to leave a comment, fill in a different email address than the one you signed up for WordPress or Gravatar. Then, it’ll let you leave a comment without signing in.

2. Don’t fill in your WordPress website link. Fill in a different website, not WordPress, and you’ll be able to leave a comment without signing in.

If you don’t mind signing in, but have trouble remembering your password,

Make a password you can remember quickly or write it on a sticky note and attach it to your computer monitor so you can remember it easily and leave a comment that your WordPress bloggers treasure. Especially, me.
