God’s Positioning System – Your Personal Path to Peace

A few years ago, when I got a phone with GPS inside, I thought God knows how to get me to places. If God wants me there, he will help me get there. Dun Ta Dun…God’s Positioning System, instead of Global Positioning System.

Back in 1999, Carl’s granddaughter was  nine years old, she decided she wanted to be baptized. We were excited. His daughter told us she was to be baptized the next Sunday. Alas and Alack! We were sad. We were scheduled to fly to Denver to see Carl’s sister and her husband. We wouldn’t be back home until after the baptism.

I was depressed. So sad. Then, I happened to think of something that filled my heart with joy. I said to Carl, “If God wants us to be somewhere, he’ll have us there.”

We’d already paid for our plane tickets (which were pretty pricey). We had our motel reservations and a car rented. I suggested that we go out there and have a good time. That I felt that’s what God would want us to do.

So we went to Denver. Had a great time. Came home. I called to find out how the baptism went.  His daughter said, “It didn’t. The minister forgot to put water in the baptismal font (a big pool). She’s going to be baptized this Sunday.”

Oh my Gosh! Carl and I were proud and happy that we were there to see his granddaughter baptized. It calmed our fears and reinforced the idea that God has us where he wants us. We had to be in tune with him. God’s Positioning System…his GPS…had us right where he wanted us.

Here are two other situations that led me to know that God has us where he wants us when we are in tune with him.

One day Carl and I were late leaving to go somewhere. We were feeling bad because we left much later than we planned. We hadn’t gone far when we saw a big wreck. Had we been on time, we might have been in that wreck.

Another example, sometimes I might choose to go a different road than I usually do. Then I find out there was a wreck the other way.

God leads us with these little gut feelings. I believe when you follow your gut feelings, you are following the will of God. I believe that’s a signal from God’s Positioning System.

I like that Harold Herring also calls GPS, God’s Peace System. In today’s time, if we listen to the news, we are bombarded with news of stressful situations constantly. Our own lives can be filled with new experiences that are scary with health, jobs, and relationships. God has a plan for us.  We only need to spend part of our day talking with him. He will give us peace that passes all understanding.

God has a plan for you.

Install the latest update for your GPS -God’s Positioning System now. Say a prayer. Talk with God. Ask him to keep you on his path to his heavenly home. He will do that.

Many moons ago, when I first thought of GPS as God’s Positioning System, I hadn’t heard anyone else call it that. However, God gives ideas to many people at the same time. There are countless posts about God’s Positioning System. Here are four of them.

Thank you for reading my blog. I hope it helps you look at things in a different light and adds a smile to your face. Please let me know times that you’re sure God’s Positioning System had you right where he wanted you!

  1. Thank you for an inspiring post, Joan.
I have had similar experiences, and have heard remarkable stories from people whose honesty I trust, but have a somewhat different explanation. That’s all right: all truth is allegory, myth, story, poetry.

    1. Dear Bob,
Thank you for writing. I’m thankful that you found my post inspiring. It’s interesting that you’ve had similar experiences. Truth comes in different packages but the same substance.

      Enjoy being you.

  2. Beautiful story. GPS, I am reminded everyday when I walk into work that I am there for his reasons. Not always easy, so thank you Joan for the reminder of GPS. God Bless, and thank you for your work.

    1. Dear Jim,
Thank you for writing. I’m glad you enjoyed my GPS story. I’d love to hear some of your God’s Positioning System stories that fill your heart with joy.
I am thankful that God’s Positioning System helped me meet you…I believe the driver of the GPS that day was Monsignor McSweeney. What a blessing I’ve received from knowing him and knowing you.. You make a powerful difference in how God works with the people in our church, especially me. I than you for that.

  3. Hi Joan,

I enjoyed hearing of your GPS experiences. Years ago, I was asked if I would transfer with my principal to a new school opening across town. I was honored and excited to be asked. Someone who heard about my transfer asked if I wasn’t scared I’d get in an accident in all that Ft. Bragg traffic. I told him I thought the Lord had provided this opportunity for me and that He would keep me safe. Turns out, I never was in an accident while employed there. I believe in God’s Positioning System too. I like that you call it that!

    1. Dear Linda,
Thank you for writing. I’m glad you enjoyed hearing my GPS experiences. I loved hearing about how your belief in God’s Positioning System to keep you safe when he sends you on a mission turned out to be exactly that when you transferred schools to a high traffic area at Fort Bragg. How awesome! What a wonderful story. Enjoy your day. Rejoice in God’s power and love for you.
