“Together Is My Favorite Place to Be” by Joan Y. Edwards

Together is my favorite place to be.
At church, at home, or sea.
United in spirit; united in glee.
Together is fun. It sends joy to my heart.
Being with you gives day a good start.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Walking side by side along the beach,
Picking up shells within our reach.
Watching the sun rise over the hill.
The sky’s lovely colors give us a thrill.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Hearing stories that make you tick
Sharing milkshakes really thick.
Learning what helps you thrive.
Being with you, I feel more alive.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Singing songs: the old; the new.
Studying animals at the zoo.
Cooling under canopies of trees,
Seeing bees get nectar with ease.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Drifting on the lake in a boat,
Wondering how ducks stay afloat.
Talking with you on video chat.
Watching your team go up to bat.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Stopping to smell the roses.
Taking photos in funny poses.
Being with you lights up my heart.
It makes me wish we’d never part.
Together is my favorite place to be.
I like cooking meals with you at home.
And eating food wherever we roam.
Watching lights guide planes in the dark.
Being with you lights me up with a spark.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Working and playing in all kinds of weather.
We are made of the toughest leather.
We’re a lucky part of the human race.
We’re able to talk and laugh face to face.
Together is my favorite place to be.
I like to sit beside you on the couch,
As we watch the quarterbacks say, “Ouch.”
It’s especially fun to holler and cheer,
And throw penalty flags year after year.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Lucky are families with bunches of kids.
Built-in together time; fun without lids.
Especially, Aunt Martha and Uncle Vernon’s seven
When I was with them, it felt like heaven.

Together is my favorite place to be.
Going to movies with popcorn and drink.

Excellent fun for all, don’t you think?
Tour local museums or one far away.
Learning lingers for more than a day.”
Together is my favorite place to be.
Ride a train from here to there.
Dining cars have meals to share.
Travel by bus across town for a sleepover.
Play childhood games like Red Rover, Red Rover.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Being alone is not sad;
It does not make me mad.
I do fun things alone.
I work in the creative zone.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Painting sea turtles, pond turtles, and ducks.
Working puzzles with red pickup trucks.
Dancing to music both fast and slow.
Traveling here and there: go, go, go.
Together is my favorite place to be.
Crossing a creek on a log
Reading comments on my blog
When you read what I write.
It makes my smiles go out of site
Together is my favorite place to be.
When I am alone and grow older and older,
I treasure the times we were shoulder-to-shoulder.
The fun I have with you never ends.
Forever you stay in my mind’s memory bins
Together is my favorite place to be.
If I get lonely, I stop and think.
We’re never alone even for an eye’s blink.
God is with us all the time.
His love
for us feels quite sublime.
