“Do You Know What?” by Joan Y. Edwards

Do you know what?
Do you know what?
Do you know what?
When I taught kindergarten, a little boy came in every morning and said in an enthusiastic voice bursting with energy, “Do you know what?” And tell me fun things about what he had done the night before, what he had seen, or what he was going to do after school.
It was quite refreshing to hear the excitement in his voice. It made me curious and excited to hear him tell his story.  He couldn’t wait until share time. He  had to do it when he first saw me each morning.
When he finished telling me one thing, he repeated the words, “Do you know what?” And told me another little snippet.
It was so cool. I am not sure he did that all year but he did it for a long time.
It was his news report…his personal news flash. I wonder if he became a television news anchor or an on the street news reporter going out in the world and reporting to all who listen to him the latest things people want to know about.
I hope you have such a good day that you want to say to everyone you meet, “Do you know what?” And afterwards share with them what makes you smile with an enthusiastic gleam in your eye.
Here are 3 “Do you know what? stories from me.
“Do You Know What?”
I saw 2 baby deer in my backyard yesterday. Lying on the ground outside my kitchen window. They stayed there for about 30 minutes. When I went on my back deck to see them closer, they scampered away one at a time. One of them looked back at me as if to say, “We’ll come back another time.”
“Do You Know What?”
I saw a squirrel in my backyard outside my kitchen window today. He scared a bird out of a bush behind my deck. The bird flew away and the squirrel went to other places in search of food.
“Do You Know What?”

    1. Dear Melanie,
Thank you very much for writing me. I’m doubly glad we are friends. Your support and encouragement over the years have definitely been invaluable for me. I am thankful God introduced us through your book, The Secret of Hillcrest House on RV Publishing! What year was that? 2011? 2012? So many fun years and supporting each other through thick and thin. Thank you.

  2. Do you know what? I have a super busy day today but I took time to read your blog because I always get an energy fix from what you say.

    1. Dear Gretchen,
Do you know what? Your comment today saying you had many things to do but chose to read my blog anyway because it energizes you filled me with awe. Thank you. I give God the credit for the energy. He sort of tells me what to write and when to write. Actually, my life’s experiences help me, too. When I come to an aha moment in my life, I like to share it in case it might help someone else. I believe that is my purpose. To help encourage myself and others on our path through life. If there’s a hole in the road, I want you to know about it so you can go around it instead of falling right in like I might have done or heard about others falling in. Thank you, Gretchen. You have touched my heart.
