“Trust Yourself: You Make Good Decisions” by Joan Y. Edwards
Have other people criticized your decisions. Have there been times when you may have questioned and doubted your own decisions.
You are human. Human beings make mistakes. However, you make the best decision anyone would make in this particular situation with the same thoughts, feelings, and information you had. Each decision that you make gives you an opportunity to grow wiser. You are doing the best you can. Have compassion for yourself.
Does knowing you are responsible for your decisions stress you out at times? It does me. Some of my decisions have hurt other people. It was not my intention to hurt them, but it did.
And of course, looking at the other side of the picture. Other people have made decisions that hurt me.
Perhaps you are focusing on one particular decision when you have made many wonderful decisions.
No matter what your decision, God is going to bring the best out of the situation for you.
You have a chance to build your self-confidence. You have an opportunity to be kind to yourself. To treat yourself as you would treat your best friend.
Ask yourself this question. Did you make the best decision anyone would make in your situation with the same knowledge, and skills you have. Of course, you did.
Steps to Make Good Decisions
1. Identify the problem. What decision must be made?
2. Consider the options and consequences. What are the known choices and what you perceive will happen if you choose them. Identify the pros and cons of each choice.
3. Choose the best plan that aligns with your goals and values.
When I was caring for my mother for 14 years, I had to make many decisions. Most of them were really good. Some of them were not very good at all. But it was so empowering when she forgave me.
Perhaps your Plan A doesn’t work so you have to go from Plan A, to Plan B. Then Plan B doesn’t work so you go to Plan C. One day in caring for my mother, I went from Plan A to Plan Z before I found something that worked. Some days are like that. There is a book called, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” by Judith Viorst. Some days are just terrible. “Some days are like that. Even in Australia.” This book helps you find humor and accept that some days are bad no matter where you are. And everything will be okay.
So I am telling you not to be too hard on yourself. Be kind to yourself. Study the situation. Ask God to help you. Don’t give up. Keep on going. Sometimes you might have to think out of the box of what is usually done. But you will be able to make a good choice. Some choices are split second decisions. Others you may have more time to study. Believe in yourself. Trust yourself.
Deep breathing before decisions may help.
Put your hands over your heart.
Take a deep breath.
Breathe in confidence. Exhale doubt.
Breathe in confidence. Exhale doubt.
Breathe in confidence. Exhale doubt.
“Lord, help me make a good decision.”
Say these affirmations every day often.
1) I am confident in my ability to make good decisions.
2) I trust my intuition when making decisions.
3) I base my decisions on fact, logic, and align them with my values and beliefs 4) I embrace uncertainty as a part of decision-making.
5) I take my time to reflect before making important choices.
The hardest person to forgive in some situations is yourself. Perhaps these scriptures will help you feel more confident in your decisions.
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” – Isaiah 30:21
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” – Psalm 32:8
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. -James 1:5
I believe in you. Trust Yourself: You Make Good Decisions.

I recently made a decision to get more involved in recreational activities and outings in my area. Senior citizens from my church attended a local museum. I joined them. While there, I signed up for a newsletter that lists upcoming events, sponsored by the museum. I also saw a sea shell display, provided by Grand Strand Shell Club and learned who to contact about membership. I’ve now involved in this club. One thing led to another, to another, to another, and to another. Such a blessing!
Dear Linda,
Thank you for writing. I am so glad that you acknowledge that you make good decisions and that one decision that you made lead to another good decision and another good decision and filled you with joy. That is so awesome. I am so happy for you. You are right. You make good decisions.
May God continue to bless you!
Never Give Up

it gets tough when procrastination is on Empty and that decision needs to be finalized. And then you have the whole HINDSIGHT thing, again, a matter of time’s passage.
I like your advice. Get the data, the facts.
I weigh logic and heartstrings. But lean on logic.
Sometimes ya make a decision and don’t know if it’ll have
a good outcome for days, weeks, months.
Sometimes some decisions we just have to live with.
Even in Australia.
Dear Bill,
Thank you for writing. I am glad you liked my advice of getting the facts, the data. When your head, your heartstrings, and your gut instinct are in balance, you make great decisions. You put good energy out there.
Sometimes an inner critic or past voices judge you and may taunt you. However, each time you make a decision you make the best one you could make with the information, skills, and awareness you had at that time. Anyone who was in your shoes with the same information, logic, and heartstrings would make the same decision, even in Australia. You only have control of what you put in. You have to trust that the outcome will be good. If it doesn’t seem good that God and your universe will help you make the best of it by loving yourself and going forward with
a stronger bond of trust in you.
I pray that your belief and trust in yourself grows stronger and stronger. You deserve it.
Believe in yourself with unwavering faith,
Never Give Up
