10 Steps to Triumph

“10 Steps to Triumph” by Joan Y. Edwards

This year, continue striving for goals that you didn’t achieve in an earlier year. Don’t sit on your dreams. Don’t live with I wish I had or I regret that I didn’t. Move toward your goals this year.

  • Can you measure it? You don’t want a vague goal like  “I will write more.”
  • Write your goal in the present tense beginning with:

I am….
I have…
I take time to…
I learn to…

Put all your goals on a sheet of paper for the present year.

  • Is your goal attainable? Could anyone like you accomplish this goal? What are the advantages and disadvantages of reaching your goal?
  • Do you really want to do it?
  • Face your fears. Find someone who’s done what you want to do.
  • When you achieve a goal, celebrate and then set a new goal.

1. Pray for God’s guidance and wisdom. Have faith in yourself.

When you get your belief system straight, you realize that all events lead you to your goals. They may be interesting detours, but if you reset your beliefs and restate your goals, you’ll get there. Why do I say that? Because inside your mind, you have an automatic success mechanism. Maxwell Maltz explains this in the Psycho-Cybernetics book. Like airplanes with automatic piloting systems, when you set your goals and believe you can do it, your automatic success mechanism goes to work and takes you to your goal.  If you stop believing, it takes you in the direction of failure. Believe in you and your goals. Believe in you.

Believe in yourself. Your belief will take you to your goal. When you stop believing in your ability to get there, something happens. You crumble. In order to meet your goal, you have to stabilize your belief system so that it gets you where you want to go.The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen...Frank Lloyd Wright

Don’t feed your mind with negative thoughts. If you do, you will come to believe them...Catherine Pulsifer

2.Be ever thankful.

Be thankful for what you have. Make a long list of people, experiences, things and ideas for which you are thankful. Thank God for your skills and knowledge. If you want something different than what you have, be grateful for what you have now. Thank others when they do even the smallest thing for you.

Yogi Bhajan said, “Gratitude is the open door to abundance.”

Albert Schweitzer said, “In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”

3. Put on a positive mindset every morning and night.

Start your day being thankful and expecting great things during the day. Lay down at night with a positive thankfulness. Think that you have an abundance of all that you need. Look for the good in yourself and others. Let go of grudges and unhappiness because of something you or someone else did or didn’t do.

Having negative thoughts is human. Try to accept them and move your thoughts to something more loving and positive. Limit the time you subject yourself to the negatives. The time we live in now throws terror, fear, and sickness on television and the movies 24 hours a day. Let it go. Focus on what you want and who you want in your life. Choose love and acceptance.

4. Relinquish control. Accept it as it is.

It’s amazing how much human beings want control of things. When you don’t know how it’s going to turn out, you are afraid to venture into the “unknown.” If you know it’s going to turn out okay, then you’re willing to take a chance. It’s very powerful and healing when you say: I Accept it. It is what it is. Accept yourself and the situation you’re in now.

Many times you may use a lot of energy complaining. You’re unhappy with things as they are. You want something else. Stop spending energy resisting the way things are. When you accept the situation, you take back your energy, it creates a better path for your new and improved life to enter.

5. Meet your needs.

Make plans to improve the situation in which you live. Take action to meet your needs and improve your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and financial well-being. Exercise your body and your mind. Relax. Interact meaningfully with others in person and online.

6. Celebrate something every day!

Celebrate each step you take. Celebrate each new thing you learn. Celebrate when you have a plan to keep unpleasant things from happening again. Celebrate when you have a plan that works to keep you rejuvenated and full of life. Help others celebrate, too. Fill yourself with as much joy as you possibly can. There’s one thing about joy, it is contagious. It spreads from you to another person. Sit at a window and rejoice that you are comfortable.

It is great to celebrate any time and every possible moment in your life. Oprah Winfrey said, “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”

7. Love yourself and others.

Be loving to yourself. Reach out to others in kindness.  Help someone do something they can’t do for themselves. Teach someone a new skill so they can do it for themselves next time.

8. Take a small risk outside of your comfort zone.

Try new things, travel new places, learn new skills, improve rusty skills, rekindle forgotten goals.

9. Invite your family and friends to join you in an activity.

It can be an activity you loved doing as a child, one you enjoy now, or a new one you’d like to try.

10. See situations with different eyes. Get a different perspective.

Look at a situation from the other person’s point of view. Pretend you’re on a star and look down. Pretend you’re an ant and look up. If you’re older, imagine what it would be if you were younger. If you’re younger, think about what it would be like if you were older. If you have loving parents, think about what it would be like for an orphan. Look at your goal like you’ve already achieved it.
