What Seems Small to You May Be a Big Help to Others

“Something Small to You May Be a Big Help to Others” by Joan Y. Edwards

I’ve heard the saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”  According to several sources including Writing Explained.org, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford  included the phrase in her book Molly Bawn  in 1878.

The worth of a gift is in the eyes of the receiver. Something that seems small to you might be a huge favor in the eyes of the person you helped. Something small to you may be a big help to others.

Examples of small things that might be a big help to others:

When you open the door for someone pushing a wheelchair
When you treat someone to lunch,
When you call 911 for someone,
When you make up someone’s bed,
When you hold a baby while the Mother fixes supper,
When you park a car for someone,
When you give someone a hug,
When you treat someone to coffee,
When you help someone with his coat,
When you drive someone to the doctor,
When you change a flat tire for someone,
When you buy someone a pair of socks,
When you wrap a heated towel around someone’s feet at night,
When you listen to someone’s story,
When you share a funny experience,
When you tell someone they are looking great,
When you ask, “May I help you?”

I think you’ll like these sayings:

Old Tanzanian Proverb “Little by little, a little becomes a lot. Every act counts no matter how small.”

By giving, you activate a universal law as sound as gravity: ‘life gives to the giver, and takes from the taker.’ The more you give, the more you get.

Zig Ziglar: “The only way to get what you want is by helping enough people get what they want first.”

As Sir Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.”

Wayne Dyer says, “How people treat you is their karma; how you respond is yours.”

Matthew  7:12  “Do unto others as would like for them to do unto you.”

Luke 6:31 “What you do for others, you do unto me.”

Each time you read my blog, it means the world to me. Do something fun to celebrate you! Give me an example of something that might seem small to you but a big help to others.

Believe in you.
