“Do You Need a Third Ear?” by Joan Y. Edwards

You say, “Why in the world would I need a third ear?  I have enough trouble taking care of the two ears I have.”
Here are the benefits of asking God for a third ear.  The Third Ear is a spiritual one. One that when you hear things that you have trouble hearing: sad things, things that make you feel angry, things you cannot do anything about, or things that make you feel powerless, these things go directly to God’s heart. This third ear has a direct line to God. It is sort of like an invisible sound pipe that goes from you to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God’s heart is represented by the heart of his son, Jesus. I love this image of Jesus of Divine Mercy.

Jesus of Divine Mercy, Be Our Third Ear?
What we hear goes straight through the rays of love to Jesus. His love and mercy filters it for us and sends it back to us in a form that empowers us and fills us with an abundance of everything we need: peace, joy, wisdom, understanding, hope, and love.
Answers: Action to take. Words to say. What to think inside your head. Ways to give yourself inner talks so that you can let go of strained emotions and feelings. Then you and the others concerned may receive the rays of peace, joy, and understanding. Jesus stores all of what you’ve heard that disturbs you in his heart. He works all the time to make good things happen.

Instead of you trying to fix everything perfect, you place it on God’s heart, leave these things up to God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and keep at peace.

Here are examples of things you might not like hearing:

  1. sad stories about the health problems of people you love, or even their death.
  2. hard but essential talks with family member or friends about the use of drugs.
  3. Things that you keep trying to control when it is not your job to control them. You are  only responsible for your thoughts, words, and behavior.
  4. When you try to control your feelings and discover they have a mind of their own.
  5. When you don’t know how to handle and respond to thoughts, words, and/or actions that hurt you, scare you, anger you, or any unpleasant feelings. Feelings that overwhelm you.
I hope you are filled with peace knowing how much God loves you. He created you and is so proud of you every day in every way! He forgives you of all your transgressions. He knows your intentions. He accepts you with all your brokenness. He sends you love and mercy!

  2. Thank you, Joan. I liked your reference to a “third ear.” Very creative! God welcomes us to lean on him, to send him our prayers! He is willing to hear all we have on our hearts and minds. As an old hymn says, “What a friend we have in Jesus!”

  3. Joan, thank you for the encouraging and thought provoking post. 😊. Glad we get to spend eternity together with each other and especially with Jesus! ✝️🙌🏻✝️🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️

    1. Dear Carol,
Thank you very much for writing. I’m glad you thought it was interesting that I considered having a third ear as a way of hearing from the Lord.
I like that the third ear helps me handle the difficult things I hear. I filter it through the third ear, through God’s help, and then I know how to handle it.

      Enjoy this day.
      Have fun. Take pictures.
      Never. Give Up
      Joan
