“Control A and Other Helpful Shortcut Keys” by Joan Y. Edwards

Dear Readers,

Today’s blog post will be brief. I know that surprises you. I hope it will be helpful to those who don’t know the wonders of using the Control and A keys on the keyboard.

Thanks to Pixabay. They allowed me to change this and to use it..

If you want to choose all items on a page, hit Control and A. It automatically highlights and selects every item on the page. If you want to copy and paste everything on that page to another document, hit Control and C.  Then go to the page where you want to put it. Hit Control and V. It will paste the whole page of words onto the new page. If you want to delete everything on the page, HIT CONTROL X.

If you are moving files from one folder to another, you can use this, too. Hit Control A, then drag the files to the new place in your computer. If you want to upload all the pictures you have to an online photo gallery, hit Control A to choose all of them.

If you want to choose some of the files but not all of them, you can hit Control Shift, and choose folders or files in a row. If you hit Control Shift and one file at the top and another one in the middle it’ll highlight all the files in between. Or if you keep clicking, it’ll highlight them all until you stop and do something with them.

Here are three different links to shortcuts that might help speed up the time you spend on the computer.

2. Save 15 keystrokes to complete a url address: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/save-15-keystrokes-use-ctrlenter-to-complete-url/

Tell me your favorite shortcut.

  1. Joan,

I learned Control C and Control V before I learned copy and paste. I use it most of the time. I appreciate that you shared about Control A. I’m sure it will come in handy. I don’t use many shortcuts but I may give a few more a try thanks to your blog post. Good information.
