Good News B35

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

John 6:1-15 New American Bible

John 6:1-15 Bible Gateway New International Version

"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?"

It is truly amazing how God works in our lives to create an abundance where there used to be not enough. Look at your own life and see if there aren’t places where this is true. What created the change? Prayers and the believe that God would help you. According to our faith, God does things for us.

Imagine that you are the boy who has the five barley loaves and the two fish. Would you be willing to share what you had with that crowd of 5,000 people. Or would you be afraid that if you gave it to the disciples, all of it would be eaten and you wouldn’t have any left.

Or imagine that you were one of the disciples who were tired of working with the people…who wanted to send them home to take care of themselves so that he and the other disciples could rest. Jesus told him that they should feed the crowds.

When each one of us, contributes a little then God multiplies it and makes its goodness spread over many. You say that one person cannot make a difference. Yes, one person can definitely make a difference. When you do something good for Jane, it starts a chain reaction. Jane then does something kind for Sam. Sam does something thoughtful for Andrea. Andrea does something loving for Jose. Jose helps Mohammed with a problem. Mohammed continues spreading the good feeling cycle by helping Jane. What goes around, comes around. Who You Are Makes a Difference to this world of ours. Say ten times out loud, “Who I am makes a difference in this world today.”

Say the “Our Father” and pray that God multiply the little you have to give so that it will benefit all.

“Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
